This release improves remote server monitoring, SSH connectivity, and health reporting.
PegasusMonitor can now monitor servers across local and external networks using SSH, including servers that require access through an SSH jump host.
The release also improves health-check accuracy by distinguishing between critical service failures and expected system configurations.
New Features
- Remote Server Monitoring
PegasusMonitor supports monitoring servers accessible over SSH.
Capabilities include:
- Monitoring servers on local networks.
- Monitoring remotely accessible servers.
- Connecting over VPN connections.
- Monitoring servers through SSH jump hosts.
- Retrieving system health information remotely.
- SSH ProxyJump Support
Servers behind private networks can be monitored using an intermediate SSH host.
Example configuration:
Host pegasus HostName pegasus.example.net User monitor
Host notes HostName 192.168.1.50 User monitor ProxyJump pegasus
This enables monitoring private servers without exposing their SSH services directly to the internet.
- External Network Connectivity
Remote monitoring has been tested successfully using external network connections, including mobile tethering.
This allows PegasusMonitor to access monitored systems while the Mac is outside the home or office network.
- Improved Health Reporting
System health checks provide information about:
- Server availability.
- CPU and system load.
- Memory utilisation.
- Disk usage.
- Running services.
- Failed systemd units.
- Network connectivity.
- Optional Service Handling
Health checks now distinguish between expected service conditions and critical failures.
The monitoring policy supports excluding known optional systemd units from critical health warnings.
optional_units = { "fwupd-refresh.service" }
- Storage Monitoring Improvements
Storage monitoring respects the current server configuration.
Removed or intentionally unavailable storage devices should not be reported as failures.
On Pegasus, the retired Time Machine storage is no longer considered a required monitoring target.
Fixes and Improvements
- Improved SSH connectivity through jump hosts.
- Resolved remote connectivity problems affecting private network addresses.
- Verified external access using mobile tethering.
- Improved handling of expected systemd service conditions.
- Reduced unnecessary system health warnings.
